Songs of the Week: Including Songs From The Vaccines and Bat For Lashes

batforlashes2012

The first single to be released from her third album ‘The Haunted Man’ is a truly beautiful song. It has already gained a good amount of radio play from Radio One since it first aired on Monday after becoming Zane Lowe’s ‘Biggest record in the world right now’. I’m sure her third album will be stunning after listening to ‘Laura’.

My Essential Summer Playlist

summer playlist

After weeks of rain in the UK the sun has decided to shine for once. I finally feel like summer has arrived, and to celebrate I have compiled a list of summery songs that I love, whether old or new. Of course everybody has their slightly cheesy guilty pleasures to get them through the summer, but here are some of my not-so-guilty pleasures. Not all summer songs have to be cringey!

What to Wear at the Airport...

Hey guys! Pretty soon I'm going to be flying to Canada for a much needed holiday but when it comes to fashion for the flight, how do I compromise between glamour and comfort? There are so many strict Airport rules in place now when going through security and check-in; that anything you carry which has the slightest possibility of being dangerous will be undoubtedly be confiscated! I've also learnt from various articles that you must never wear items containing metal; yes girls...this includes jewellery :( Always make sure you don't wear metal jewellery when going through security; keep it in your carry on bag or even better, just dont bring jewellery at all to avoid extra security checks as it will really speed things up!

1. Wear Comfortable Clothing. It is so important to feel comfortable at the Airport as you are likely to be waiting around a lot before your flight. Even though you need to feel comfortable though it doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your sense of style!- Wear stylish clothes and accessorise with non-metal bracelets or necklaces etc. Also make sure that  you wear shoes that are easy to slip on and off as it is likely that they will be scanned separately in security. Flip Flops are a no-go. Think about how many people stand in the security line at the airport. Now, think about swapping germs with all of them...eww! Where shoes you can wear socks with to avoid walking bare-footed on the airport floor and protect your toes from being trampled. And girls, save the 5" heels to wear at your destination; trust me, you don't want to be painfully stumbling around a crowded Airport!

2. Don't Wear an Underwire Bra. The wire in your underwire bra will trigger the sensitive airport metal detectors which could lead to an uncomfortable and slightly embarrasing 'pat-down' inspection. Opt for a bra   that gives you support as well as comfort - and won't get you stopped at security or dig into your back and shoulders during a long flight.

3. Wear Layers. Its a very efficient and sensible idea to layer your clothing when going to an Airport. The coolness/heat may vary depending on the amount of air conditioning so you'll want to be able to easily strip down if you get too hot and vice versa...However, don't wear very bulky or thick items of clothing as this may look suspicious to security members and could lead to a thorough pat down inspection! Bring a Pashmina. You can use it as a blanket, a scarf and eye mask...It's so useful!

I hope you take this advice and have a safe and comfortable journey.
Good Luck at the Airport!

Fashion Finds from my Holiday Shopping Spree...

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been blogging much recently...I've kinda fallen into a lazy pattern of sleeping, eating, lazing about etc which is such a ridiculous routine and I need to snap out of it! Sure, the holidays can be great for a while but I'll admit that for me they get pretty boring when you don't have anything to focus on or motivate you to get yourself out of bed in the morning :/ Anyway, lately it has been pretty exciting shopping for fashion items for my trip to Vancouver in Canada! I am super excited and I'll show you my gorgeous 'essentials' I bought to put in my 'Carry on bag' for the flight...
1.River Island blue curve stitch purse £17. Its so great to finally have a quality as well as stylish purse! It's also important to have a decent purse, especially when travelling as you'll need easy access to your bank/credit cards and cash etc so organising crucial items are essential! I love its soft baby blue colour and texture and also goes well with my new bag which I also bought from River Island :D
2.Chance Perfume by Chanel £50. This fragrance smells so beautiful and lingers for hours on end...I went to Debenhams to by this as it has a wide range of perfumes from various luxury brands, though the 'chance' perfume was a fragrance that caught my eye as I'd seen so many advertisements about it and was curious to find out what it was like. I became pretty fond of the sweet scent after using the tester...maybe spraying it a bit too much for the shop assistants liking, oh well! This perfume smells gorgeous and its worth the price...quality and long lasting perfume is what you are paying for, as well as the pretty round glass bottle it comes in! Worth every penny.

3.Claires Love from Paradise Compact Mirror £4. This compact looks so pretty and it can be useful to reassure yourself that you look great or to check we haven't got crumbs on our face...Anyway, iv'e been needing a decent compact for a while now and I thought this mirror was pretty cute when I saw it in Claire's and I like that it says 'Love from Paradise...'.

4.Claire's Eye Mask £4. To have a nice sleep on an aeroplane or any journey, a comfortable eye mask is really helpful for drifting off to sleep. I thought that this eye mask from claire's looked really sweet as well as comfy with the smooth satin backing and soft woolly front for a peaceful nights sleep and comfortable journey.

I got a load of other plane necessities like lip balm, ear plugs etc but hey I don't want to bore you with that! Have a nice day :)

Lana Del Rey Releases Brand New Video For ‘Summertime Sadness’

lana-del-rey-s-summertime-sadness-video

Lana has released her second music video in a matter of weeks after the video was leaked. Her last video was for the single National Anthem and was only released less than a month ago. If you haven’t already seen it click here.

In Summertime Sadness the style seems to revert back to her old music videos and retains the beautiful retro theme we have all become familiar with. At the moment it is unclear whether this will be her next single from the album ‘Born to Die’.

Check out the video below;

Feminine Curves: A History of Elegantly Waisted Icons...

Above: The Curvy Actress/Model Scarlett Johansson
A timeless focus on the hip and waist ratio for women has always been a high priority, being curvaceous is beautiful feature to possess as it gives you a vast choice of what clothes will flatter your frame, a slim waist and wider hips looks both elegant and feminine as well as creating a desirable soft silhouette.Crowd pleasing curves has been a focus for women for centuries and so many icons have helped encourage women to embrace or emphasize their naturally curvy and feminine physique...
1950's Marilyn Monroe
"The body is meant to be seen, not all covered up"-Marilyn Monroe
1960's Elizabeth Taylor
“When people say: she’s got everything, I’ve only one answer: I haven’t had tomorrow.” - Elizabeth Taylor
1970's Farrah Fawcett
1960's Brigitte Bardot
"Every age can be enchanting, provided you live within it."

1970's Farrah Fawcett

"I am proud of what I have got, and I need an audience"- Farrah Fawcett
1980's Pamela Anderson
"And I'm not an actress. I don't think I am an actress. I think I've created a brand and a business." - Pamela Anderson
2000's Beyonce Knowles
“Some people think one thing is beautiful, some think another is. When people say that I am ‘most beautiful’ or ‘most sexy’, it bothers me. “I like fashion and I like to look good. I like to try at least, but everyone has their own opinion.” - Beyonce Knowles
2000's Scarlett Johansson
“If you're comfortable with yourself, then it's sexy. Maybe people think I look sexy because I feel sexy. I am a very liberated person that way. I'm very comfortable with my sexuality, my body, my face - well, sometimes I'm not comfortable with my face, but it's stuck there and there's nothing I can do about it.” - Scarlett Johansson

Latest Album Releases: 09/07/12

lianne-la-havas-is-your-love-big-enough

This week English singer-songwriter Lianne La Havas releases her debut album, ‘Is Your Love Big Enough?’. If you love Corinne Bailey Rae then make sure you take a listen to Lianne as her songs tend to be compared to hers quite a lot, which isn’t a bad thing at all. The soulful singer certainly has an amazing voice, but will the songs themselves match up to her rich vocals?

How to Love that Girl in the Mirror...

Do you ever have moments of insecurity? When you look in the mirror do you see the beautiful features which make up you or focus on your so called 'flaws'. So many women are being bombarded with hundreds of 'natural' beauty advertisements with airbrushed and photoshopped models which is sadly leading society to view this as perfection. But the question is, what is perfection? Noone knows because it doesn't exist! Have you ever noticed how a girl appears prettier when she has a beautiful personality? A key to feeling great is enhancing your inner qualities before you work on your outer appearance...
1.Be Loving and Caring to others. Instead of fretting about your appearance all the time, try to focus on others. Show your family and friends that you love them through kind gestures. If someone appears lonely or upset don't just ignore them, go and make them feel welcome or soothe their troubles; people will learn that your a lovely person and will not only feel comfortable around you but you'll also appear twice as beautiful in their eyes.

2.Be Yourself.
Yeah I'm sure you've been told this so many times. May be it was first advised to you by a parent on your first day of school, but do we really understand how important this is? So many people try to mould themselves to fit other people's ideals, but why change yourself? If they can't love and accept you for who you really are, then they aren't worth being around anyway! Surround yourself with people who love you for you, not the fictional character you create just to 'fit in'.
3.Focus on your Assets not your Flaws. Look in the mirror and focus on the things which you love about yourself. Its human nature to 'see the glass as half empty' and want the things we haven't got when everyone has got something which others envy, including you! We're all human and we all have flaws but we need to embrace ourselves and love the assets we've been blessed with. Be positive!

Just keep on smiling :)

Audrey Hepburn...Style Icon of the 60's

"The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows & the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years."
— Audrey Hepburn
Audrey Hepburn remains an inspirational and admired fashion figure since her huge success during the  1960's. I love her grace and elegance and with her classic, timeless style, she reminds us that less is more, good etiquette will never go out of style and a kind heart is irreplaceable. Her delicate beauty and sweet nature is surely an inspiration to many women... here are a few things that we can we can learn from our beautiful role model...
Be Kind and Compassionate.

Have Good Posture.
Be Fun and Free.
“I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.”
―
Audrey Hepburn
Adore Francais.
Elegance is Priceless.
Why not?
When you’re strong and beautiful on the inside, it doesn’t take much effort to share your beauty with the world. The answer is to believe that you do indeed possess such qualities. Thinking of others, saying kind words and being modest, its wonderful to be reminded of such elegant simplicity from a very chic lady. Thank you Audrey.
