Newlook: Sleeveless Pleated Dress in Coral

Why is it that whenever you want something, you can never find it? It is so frustrating that I can't seem to find this dress in a size 8, even though I have endlessly checked the website to see if they restocked it; or got it in a size 8 in my local Newlook. They always seem to have it in anything but a size 8! On websites and shops, all the prettiest and quality dresses are snatched up quickly by 'eagle' buyers. So I'm going to advise you guys, so that you don't make the same mistake as I did. If you see a dress, skirt or any item of clothing that you like, don't be indecisive or unsure about it, if you love it, then you love it! Buy it quickly before people swoop in and buy them all!- sometimes they don't restock a certain dress and replace it with something else :/ so don't take chances. See it. Love it. Buy it!

Stylish Women in Music: Lana Del Rey

Lana has had quite a brilliant year so far with a number one album, top ten singles and also winning various awards including a Brit. But it isn’t just her music which is getting noticed. Lana has a brilliant sense of style and everyone seems to be obsessing over her retro waves at the moment. She’s even become so much of a style icon that Mulberry named one of their latest handbag creations after the star.

What I’ve been listening to…

I’ve been so busy lately doing boring case studies and stuff for school, so I thought I’d write a little about what songs I can’t stop listening to at the moment while I’ve got a bit of spare time. :)

Marina and the Diamonds - Primadonna by Marina and The Diamonds
  • After already reaching over half a million views on YouTube, I predict that Primadonna will be a big hit for Marina. The latest single from Marina is quite different to her past songs. I was a bit worried about her new direction when the last single Radioactive was released, but Primadonna is a perfect pop song and I love it!

Never Let Me Go
  • To be honest the first time I heard this song I cried a bit, and I don’t cry at songs. Ever. That’s a compliment. This song is just so emotional and Florence’s vocals are amazing. This is one of my favourites from the album Ceremonials.

I have so many other songs to write about, so expect to see me blog about them soon!

Vogue: Street Chic in Paris

As Paris is one of my favorite cities, I was looking around the Vogue website for the latest spring/summer trends that are inspired by Paris. I really admire Paris, especially since it's the fashion capital of the world, and so the designers there definitely have a natural talent for new style.
Anyway, on the Vogue website, I came across this 'Street Chic' Jumper Dress. It looks soo cute and girly with it's bright pastel colour and smiley faces, that it is such a fun outfit to have for summer! Its such a simple yet effective style, with the peter pan collar giving it a vintage twist.

Desperate Housewives: Gabrielle Solis

I've been watching Desperate Housewives for quite a while now, and I love the consistently intense and interesting storyline along with the great characters. My favourite character though, who I've come to really admire is definitely Gabrielle Solis. I love how underneath her attitude and occasional stubborn behaviour, she's really a sweet and warm hearted person. In earlier series, she was seen to be a quite selfish and fiesty character; though going through a period where she wasn't as rich, humbled her and made her attitude change, to the sweet and warm character she is now. I'll show how to capture Gabrielle Solis' natural beauty, in a few simple steps.

1. Don't be afraid to express your true emotions, Gabrielle Solis, is a passionate and honest character who is unafraid to express her feelings. If you find something funny, then don't restrain your laughter, laugh out loud to be carefree and unafraid of what anybody thinks!- pure unrestrained laughter or smiling, beams confidence and makes you look 3 times as beautiful as you already are! It's beautiful to express your true emotions, whether that be crying with despair or uncontrollable laughter - it shows that you have an open and passionate heart, like Gabrielle.
2. Be a natural. Eva Longoria who plays Gabrielle, naturally has a tanned glowing skin tone due to her ethnicity (Mexican-American), but you can recreate this glowing look through using a warm make-up look. In Desperate Housewives, Gabrielle uses warm make-up tones and natural lipstick shades to bring out her natural beauty, which you can do to. Wear subtle bronze and earthy eye shadows, and dark brown eye liner, to brighten your eyes with a natural look. Use a lipstick close to the shade of your natural lip colour, this will look natural as well as gorgeous! Use big hair rollers to wear after a shower and air dry (or if you don't have time then use a hair dryer). This will give your hair natural, soft flowing waves like Gabrielle, and also doesn't damage your hair like curlers!
3. Dress Vividly, like Gabrielle, wear flattering and vivid, warm shades that compliments your skin color, eyes and Hair color. For example, Gabrielle sometimes wears Fern green as it's a color which naturally compliments brunettes with brown eyes. Always color co-ordinate. Don't wear clothes which you know don't suit you or blend well with other clothes your wearing. Gabrielle wears simple classic dresses and clothing because less is more. Wearing too many layers of clothing or accessories can ruin a look; so choose a glamorous outfit/dress and wear a few accessories that'll compliment it, and there! A stunning dress sense like Gabrielle.

Mango: Kate Moss Spring/Summer trends

When I was watching the TV ad for Mango, I saw Kate Moss modelling this unique masculine styled garment. Its surprising how something so very recognizably masculine, can look incredibly feminine on a women, while also making her look independent and strong. It's clever how Mango have used the original idea to turn the classic tuxedo, into a 'smoking-hot dress'! The price also took me by surprise as it is just £44.99! - unusual for a statement jacket thats being advertised on TV! I don't think its something i'd buy though.
While looking on the Spring /Summer collection on the Mango website, I also came across these other two gorgeous outfits; The pink brightly striped dress (2 in 1: Dress and Sweater) which looks cute and casual for summer with the belt and the dress is only £9.99! I think that's a really good deal for a dress from Mango!
I also love the peach pleated dress for only £22.99, It's so fresh and light to wear in the summer months, and goes really well with a biker jacket and belt. This dress is defo my favourite out of the three.

Stylish Women in Music: Azealia Banks

Said to be ‘the next big thing’ by music critics, Azealia has an exciting future ahead of her. The stylish rapper from New York has already been compared to Nicki Minaj and other female rappers. Although she’s had these comparisons, Azealia has a fresh and spontaneous style which makes her stand out from the others. She was first noticed widely by her single ‘212’ and her songs have featured on the Mugler Mens fall 2012 runway show. Check out ‘212’ and the Mugler show below;

Azealia has also been a regular at a number of runway shows, including sitting front row at the Mulberry show and also attending the Topshop unique show at London fashion week.

Latest Obsession: Wildfox Couture

After browsing through the web, I found the brilliant store Wildfox. I love how it’s mainly influenced by the coolest of vintage from 60’s and 70’s America. Even the stars love it. Cheryl Cole, Jessie J, Ellie Goulding and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley have been spotted wearing Wildfox. Here are some of my favourite pieces from the site;

Sincerity Bridal: Ivory/Taupe Wedding Dress

As many girls do, I was browsing through the many beautiful wedding dresses on websites looking for my dream wedding dress, which maybe one day i'd wear down the isle...! I came across this gorgeous  Ivory/Taupe dress on Sincerity Bridal Worldwide > which I loved as soon as I saw it (it wasn't easy to choose a dress because their were so many stunning ones that it was difficult to decide!) The lace accents and Taupe ribbon adds elegance to it's design, and it's these pretty little details which makes the dress go from looking beautiful to stunning! It's quite irritating that they don't show the price on the website; I guess that could mean that the price is negotiable or that it's just really expensive and they don't want to put people off! Oh                                                                                                          well, I guess everything is expensive these days; but I would definitely pay a lot in the future, if it meant I could get the perfect dress! x

How to do the latest trend: Ditsy Florals

I have always loved floral patterns so it’s great that it is currently trending. This trend is perfect for girly girls and lazing in the summer sunshine, but if feminine florals aren’t for you, Alexander Wang, Valentino and Dries Van Noten have produced some monochrome styles which are alot more subtler than the traditional floral styles. Here’s how to copy the floral trend:

Dress £27.99 – Newlook, Skirt £15 – Boohoo,
Shorts £32 - Topshop

Top £5.99 – Missguided, Dress £22.99 – Missguided,
Dress £28 – River Island

Tip: The key of working the floral trend is to mix it up with your wardrobe basics. For example you can mix the crop top above with a plain skirt so you don’t go too much over the top with the pretty pattern.

Have fun shopping!

Reiss and River Island: The Latest Clothes

When browsing through the shops today; looking for nothing in particular, I saw this 'Heidi' fitted wrap dress in Ultra Marine, which I saw in their clothes display. I went in to try it on and managed to eventually squeeze into a size 6! - the only size they had left. I always go for colours go for colours which compliment my skin tone; and this dress looked really nice (which is what I expected for the price of £179, sheesh!) I think this dress would be great to wear to work; maybe with a neat cardi or something to smarten it up a bit. I really like this dress, but I think the price pushes it over the edge - its not that affordable for the average student!
I also had a browse through River Island in town, to see their latest clothes and I discovered this vintage styled outfit. It's attractive as it adapts to people with varied shapes. For all you more curvaceous or (hourglass figured) women, the brown belted pencil skirt highlights your best assets including curves in all the right places, which you should flaunt with pride! For all you slim women or ( rectangle figured) women, the skirt shows of your trim slim waist and adds curves to your figure - without throwing you out of proportion.

Rachel Mcadams: Naturally Beautiful

I've always admired Rachel Mcadams, for her natural beauty as well as incredible acting talent; and I've adored her ever since I watched her stunning, and emotionally intense performance in 'The Notebook'. It seems incredibly rare for an actress/actor to look beautiful on the outside, as well as have beauty that shines from the inside; and I think that's what makes her such an incredible actress.
When searching for the kind of thing that the film star wears daily, I came across this image of her wearing this pretty beige dress; which I think is a perfect choice for day wear. It's effortlessly  glamourous, care-free and simple, which is the kind of style I love!

I'm really looking forward to seeing 'The Vow' soon, as it looks great in the trailer! I'm expecting it to be a captivating movie; especially since Rachel Mcadams is starring in it.

Style Icon: Alexa Chung

There is no denying that Alexa is simply one of the coolest fashion icons around at the moment.
It’s very rare to see her wearing anything bad. Actually, I don’t think I have ever seen her in a bad outfit even once! She always effortlessly pulls of her trademark Peter Pan collars and cute dresses. She definitely is a fashion icon for me anyway.

I love these photos from the Vero Moda Spring/Summer ad campaign. I love the classy vintage style that Alexa always manages to pull off and look stylish in. I especially like the items below. So lovely!

Finding the Finest Fragrance

Do you ever wish that the sweet scent of your perfume, could just linger a little longer? It's so irritating when you buy a perfume e.g impulse - spray it on yourself, and the smell fades within minutes. Is it impossible for the producers to realize that all we want is a perfume that smells irresistible; while having a scent that stays noticeable for the remainder of the day? But then I guess, that's what I should expect when it costs only £1.99.
Even so, after hunting for a perfume that smells amazing and lingers for hours; I came across ck one! It's a uni-sex  perfume, so its got more of a muskier scent than regular women's perfume, but It's got that balance between smelling sweet and musky which I just love! It's also only £28.99 from Superdrug, so it's a typical designer quality perfume, without breaking the bank!
